Lapislazuli juwelery by BERND WOLF

The name “lapis lazuli” has its origin in the Persian language, where it means “blue stone”. The color of this opaque stone ranges from pure ultramarine to lighter shades of blue. White calcite inclusions reduce the stone’s value. Reminiscent of the stars in the sky, the gold-colored pyrite inclusions are very popular. The exceptionally exquisite specimens used by BERND WOLF come from the Hindu Kush area, which stretches from central Afghanistan to northern Pakistan, and where lapis lazuli is mined from June until November at an altitude of 3,500 to 5,500 meters. Large deposits yielding lapis lazuli in poorer quality are located in Siberia, on Lake Baikal, and in Chile. Lapis lazuli was considered a sacred stone back in ancient times, and was appreciated by many cultures for its positive qualities. It is said to protect us from the evil eye and to help cure gout, blood diseases and insomnia. It is regarded as an ideal friendship stone that symbolizes stability. It is also believed to strengthen our willpower and readiness to help others, and to protect us from harmful influences.
